
Earlier today, the Los Angeles Police Department apprehended a suspect in a fatal hit-and-run incident involving a bicyclist. The October 24 case involved a van hitting a male cyclist near 115th Street and Broadway, with the victim dragged under the van for approximately one mile, as noted by the LAPD Newsroom.
The victim was dislodged at Broadway and El Segundo Boulevard. Unfortunately, and despite the efforts of Los Angeles Fire Department paramedics, the victim was declared dead at the scene, with his identity to remain confidential until his family can be notified.
With the assistance of security camera footage and eyewitness accounts, the South Traffic Division detectives managed to, quickly locating the suspect vehicle - a Chevrolet Astro Van. The van was discovered parked in Compton, and the police subsequently arrested the driver, 66-year-old Felipe Avalos. Avalos is charged with vehicular manslaughter and is being held in custody, with bail set at $50,000 according to LAPD Newsroom.
