
Jason Lyle Garner from Oxnard, California, is facing consequences for his actions, having been sentenced to 8 years and 8 months in prison for crimes committed in three separate instances during 2020. It's a sobering reminder of the lasting impact of crime and violence, according to Ventura County District Attorney.
Garner's first case climaxed from a heated argument at a liquor store near Ventura Harbor on July 16, 2020, became physical, with Garner stabbing the victim multiple times. The victim survived after receiving treatment for stab wounds. Garner was identified and arrested based on surveillance footage and previous run-ins with law enforcement. He later pleaded guilty to a felony count of assault with a deadly weapon on September 8, and was sentenced to six years in prison for this offense.
Garner's second case resulted from him confessing to possession of stolen motorcycles, which law enforcement officers recovered on November 12, 2020. Garner was dealt with a two-year sentence for this crime, which will serve concurrently with his six-year sentence for the stabbing.
Garner's third case began when he offend, while out on bail for his other crimes. He was arrested at a storage facility on August 7, 2020, after police found ammunition and parts of two AR-15 firearms in his storage unit during a probation check. A jury, on August 23, 2023, convicted him for three counts of being a felon in possession of a firearm and ammunition, adding 2 years and 8 months to his prison sentence.
Senior Deputy District Attorney Mickye Coyle expressed gratitude towards the jury members of Garner's trial.
