The City of Palmdale, in coordination with LA County, the City of Lancaster, and CalRecycle, has organized a free scrap tire collection event for Saturday, October 21, as part of their environmental safety initiatives. The event, scheduled between 9 a.m. and 2 p.m., encourages residents to dispose of their scrap tires responsibly, thereby mitigating any potential environmental risks in the area.

Improper disposal of scrap tires poses significant environmental and health problems such as air and water pollution, soil toxicity, and a breeding ground for disease-bearing mosquitoes. According to a City of Palmdale announcement on their Facebook page, LA County residents can bring up to nine scrap tires per trip to one of the designated road yard locations. For those with more than nine scrap tires, a phone call to (626) 430-5540 a week in advance is advised.

While rims will be welcomed at the event, tractor-sized tires or business-derived tires will not be accepted. The event is designed primarily for residential households. Owners of barred tires should contact LA County or a specific recycling center to arrange for proper disposal.

Collaborative initiatives between towns, counties, and specialized recycling firms such as CalRecycle enable effective waste management and environmental strategies. For more event details and drop-off locations, residents can visit www.CleanLA.com or call888/CLEAN-LA (888/253-2652), as per the City of Palmdale announcement.
