
Carlos Barreda, a 53-year-old food delivery driver, was arrested following a felony assault on an adult in Petaluma, California. Allegedly, after a traffic dispute, Barreda attacked a grandmother while she escorted her grandchildren home from school, as reported by a press release from the Petaluma Police Department.
The incident happened on Monday, October 23. The victim crossed in the 100 Block of Payran Street with her two young grandchildren while Barreda failed to yield in his vehicle. He was reportedly distracted using his mobile phone while driving. After narrowly avoiding a collision, Barreda parked his car, exchanged words with the grandmother after she confronted him, and reportedly assaulted her. He then fled from the scene.
The victim received help from members of the community who had witnessed the event and provided statements to the police. The Petaluma Police Department’s Community Impact Response Team (CIRT) launched an investigation and issued a warrant for Barreda's arrest. The charges against him include felony assault, felony on an elder adult, and misdemeanor child endangerment. His arrest took place on Friday,October 27, at which point to the Sonoma County Jail he was transported.
