On October 23, Petaluma law enforcement was dispatched to a disturbance at the Round Walk Village Apartment Complex, leading to the apprehension of stabbing suspect, Juan Martinez-Montano. According to the Petaluma Police Department. Martinez-Montano, 37, a Rohnert Park inhabitant, faces assault with a deadly weapon and child endangerment charges.

An adult male victim sustained severe injuries, including facial stab wounds, which resulted in urgent medical treatment and hospitalization. The disagreement began when the victim, an acquaintance of Martinez-Montano, was assaulted by the suspect with a knife in the apartment complex parking lot. The suspect's two children were unfortunately present in the car and witnessed the horrifying ordeal.

On hearing that Martinez-Montano fled on foot still in possession of the knife, officers swiftly established a search perimeter. They sought support from the Sonoma County Sheriff's helicopter "Henry-1" and "Dolly", a tracking bloodhound from the Cotati Police Department. Alas, their initial search came up empty.

However, detectives with to sieve through the Petaluma Police Department Investigations Unit, soon secured an arrest warrant for Martinez-Montano and began to work the crime scene. In a surprising twist of events, at approximately 12:25 AM yesterday, Martinez-Montano surrendered at the Petaluma Police Department without further incident. In a subsequent interrogation, Martinez-Montano confessed to assaulting the victim with the same knife he had dumped whilst fleeing. The knife was later located following a canvassing of the area where Martinez-Montano escaped.
