Yesterday, Riverside resident Darren Eugene Cooper, 61, was arrested by the San Bernardino County Sheriff's Department. His arrest was due to the false information found on his sex offender registration documents, as per the San Bernardino County Sheriff-Coroner Department report.
Starting from a tip-off the detectives received in September 2023, the investigation revealed several misleading entries Cooper had made on his registration documents over 18 months. The findings of the investigation emphasize the continuous struggle of law enforcement to maintain accurate data about sex offenders, to ensure public safety.
Charged with sex registrant violations, filing false documents, and perjury, Cooper was taken into custody uneventfully. With a bail set at $40,000, the case has been forwarded to the District Attorney's office for a more in-depth review and charge filing. To cooperatively maintain safety, the Sheriff's Department encourages the public to bring forth any information about non-compliant sex offenders, as mentioned in their response.
