On October 20, the City of Santa Clarita announced the initiation of a low-cost mobile spay and neuter service aimed at the Newhall Community Center. The project, set to begin November 6, 2023, is in collaboration with the Los Angeles County Department of Animal Care and Control (DACC) and aided by the Simi Valley Non-Profit Spay and Neuter Clinic, according to the City of Santa Clarita.

In line with Santa Clarita Municipal Code Chapter 8.20, which requires all dogs and cats above four months of age to be spayed or neutered, the city is aiming to improve the health and well-being of its animal population with this initiative.

In a bid to foster access to affordable pet care for those who are financial need, the mobile clinic is to be stationed every Monday in the Newhall Community Center parking lot. Pet owners who are to benefit from these services should make a call to (805) 584-3823 to express interest in the program and will be called back by a staff member to schedule an appointment as announced by the City of Santa Clarita.

The DACC had previously offered limited spay/neuter services and vet service vouchers to local pet owners. More information on this program can be found on their website at animalcare.lacounty.gov/spay-and-neuter/.

Individuals and groups engaging in trap-neuter-release programs can also utilize the services offered by the clinic. Arrangements can be made by calling the contact number mentioned earlier in this article.
