On Tuesday, October 24, Ventura County Sheriff's Office conducted an arrest involving the possession and potential sale of a considerable quantity of fentanyl in Camarillo. As cited by the Ventura County Sheriff's Office, they discovered around 530 grams of the substance during a traffic stop after receiving an alert of a reckless driver from an off-duty member of the VC FOCUS task force.
This arrest was part of the ongoing VC FOCUS's efforts to tackle fentanyl-related offenses and opioid overdoses. VC FOCUS, consisting of all regional law enforcement agencies and the District Attorney's Office, is dedicated to identifying and disrupting fentanyl supply chains. It is also committed to identifying new trends of abuse among young individuals and educating the community about the dangers of opioids.
The suspect, Alejandro Oviedo, a 49-year-old resident of Santa Paula, was arrested after trying to avoid arrest. The impounded fentanyl was located in the trunk of his vehicle. The Ventura County Sheriff's Office announced that the seized fentanyl quantity was suggestive of the involvement with narcotic sales and trafficking. The DEA reaffirms the seriousness, highlighting that 2 milligrams could potentially be a lethal dosage of fentanyl.
Part of the County Opioid Abuse Suppression Taskforce (COAST), VC FOCUS collaborates with Ventura County Behavioral Health in a campaign aimed at reducing overdoses and raising public awareness about opioid dangers. The Ventura County Responds website provides useful information and resources regarding opioid abuse and the campaign.
