On October 19, local resident, Amy Mellott, 45, was arrested during a routine traffic stop in Santa Rosa for possession of fentanyl with intent to sell and transportation of the drug.
Mellott, initially halted for mechanical violations, had outstanding arrest warrants. Based on the Santa Rosa Police Department's official statement, she was in possession of an estimated 5 ounces of suspected fentanyl—roughly 71,000 lethal doses—concealed in her undergarments. Fentanyl, a synthetic opioid, has a potency 50 to 100 times greater than morphine, presenting a colossal risk to both users and unsuspecting individuals.
