An 18-year-old, Sammy Estrada, is facing murder charges in Riverside County, California, in connection to a fentanyl poisoning case resulting in a teenager's death. Information from a press release by the Riverside County Sheriff's Office sheds light on this incident.

On July 24, fire-medics attempted, to no avail, to save the life of an unresponsive teenager in Jurupa Valley. Investigations by the Overdose Death Investigations and Narcotics Unit (ODIN) of the Riverside County Sheriff's Office determined that the cause of death was a fentanyl overdose.

Fentanyl is a synthetic opioid that is highly potent and potentially lethal. Among its risks include its frequency in counterfeit medications and illegal drugs, which amplifies the dangers of their consumption.

Over several months, investigators from ODIN were able to track down and identify Estrada as the suspect who sold the deadly fentanyl. After an unsuccessful detainment attempt on October 11, officers arrested Estrada on October 26 in Murrieta, and collected evidence from his home and car further implicating him in narcotics sales.

Yesterday, murder charges were filed against Estrada once the investigation was submitted to the Riverside County District Attorney's Office.

The investigation into Estrada's case continues, and the Riverside County Sheriff's Office is urging anyone with additional information to come forward.
