On Saturday October 7, around 3:15 PM, authorities at Matilija Dam in Ojai, CA received a distress call reporting a severe accident. A 19-year-old male had sustained critical injuries after jumping into overly shallow waters from a height of 60 feet, according to the press release of Ventura County Sheriff's Office.
The Ventura County Aviation Unit quickly dispatched Copter 9, their primary rescue aircraft. The crew included Ventura County Firefighters, Sheriff's Deputies, and a Flight Medic from the Search and Rescue Medical Team.
Upon reaching the scene of the accident, rescue personnel found the victim under the initial care of Ventura County Firefighters and Paramedics. The crew launched a hoist operation, lifting the young man onto Copter 9, where medical assistance continued. The teenager was then airlifted to Ventura County Medical Center.
