Yesterday, traffic on Interstate 30 in Mesquite was halted due to an intense accident involving an 18-wheeler during rush hour. The accident resulted in significant delays and numerous injuries, with at least three victims taken to the hospital as reported by Dallas News.
As per the WFAA, the incident occurred at 1 P.M. near Gus Thomasson Road. The calamity unfolded when a semi-truck rammed into a center barrier, causing it to tilt on its side. Numerous vehicles were caught in the resulting chaos, including a van carrying cats in crates, which were destroyed as a result of the impact.
The watch commander at the scene noted that three cats were injured and subsequently received care from the Mesquite Animal Shelter. This demonstrates the shelter's ongoing commitment to help defenseless animals in times of chaos.
A separate WFAA report cited animal control authorities informing police that some cats may have escaped during the turmoil. This added a distressing element to an already tragic event. While most reports focus on human victims, the ordeal of these unassuming creatures should not be overlooked.
