Austin's Franklin Barbecue has partnered with Los Angeles-based HomeState to bring its renowned Texas barbecue to Southern California for five days from November 8 to 12. The collaboration, organized to celebrate HomeState's 10th anniversary, features a unique chopped brisket breakfast taco named "The Franklin." The venture was first reported by LA Eater and Los Angeles Magazine yesterday.
This event follows a previous collaboration from 2015 between Aaron Franklin, founder of Franklin Barbecue, and chef Adam Perry Lang. The pop-up marks Franklin Barbecue's first LA appearance since that time. As detailed by Los Angeles Magazine, the brisket breakfast taco, featuring Franklin Barbecue's smoked brisket, Vital Farms pasture-raised scrambled eggs, cheddar, and chile de arbol salsa, is exclusively available in person at HomeState's original location at 4624 Hollywood Boulevard.
Furthermore, both companies have chosen to support the food and beverage industry through charitable contributions. According to HomeState's Instagram, one dollar from each taco sold will be donated to the Southern Smoke Foundation, with Vital Farms matching the total donation up to $10,000. The foundation is a nonprofit organization that provides emergency relief and access to mental health services to those in the food and beverage industry.
Renowned for their widely appreciated brisket, Franklin Barbecue has, since its establishment in 2009, regularly drawn large numbers of eager customers. HomeState, although not generating the same crowd sizes, also holds a respected position, specializing in Austin-style breakfast tacos. It has expanded from a single location to now having eight locations across Southern California, with one as far as Oceanside. LA Eater and Los Angeles Magazine reported the business's expansion.
