Houston Cops Hit in Drunk Driving Disasters as Booze Cruisers Bedlam Unfolds, Sending Civilians to ER in Smashups

A Houston police officer's vehicle was hit by another car in the 7500 block of Southwest Freeway, sending a civilian to the hospital with complaints of chest pain. The patrol unit, heading to an emergency with lights and sirens blaring, collided with another vehicle as they moved through an intersection, believing they had cleared traffic as reported by FOX 26 Houston.

Meanwhile, on Katy Freeway, near Eldridge, a separate crash rattled the Houston Police Department when a suspected drunk driver rammed into the back of a police car that was responding to another collision. This earlier accident involved a Tesla and an 18-wheeler, causing life-threatening injuries to the Tesla driver. According to Click2Houston, the impact of the suspected drunken mishap propelled the patrol car into two other vehicles in the lane.

Both of the officers involved in the incidents are reported to have suffered only minor injuries, although their ordeals underscore the perilous unpredictability of emergency response in urban sprawl. Authorities have yet to release the identities of those involved in the crashes as investigations continue to unfold.

A DWI investigation was immediately opened following the Katy Freeway crash. Sgt. Griffiths of the Houston Police Department gave a brief update on the health status of those involved in the harrowing incident. “The officer, he should be OK. The suspected driver, I’m not sure of his condition, but I believe he is alive. I don’t think he has life-threatening injuries,” Griffiths told Click2Houston.
