The Galveston County Sheriff's Office has reported 13 men indicted in a comprehensive sex trafficking investigation, as FOX 26 Houston first detailed. One malefactor is still at large.
Amongst the accused stands Berry Wright IV, aged 30, charged with the trafficking of a 20-year-old woman, as reported by the victim herself months ago. "The indictment alleges that she suffered multiple different assaults from Mr. Wright. Compelling prostitution is a first-degree felony that's punishable by a minimum of five years in prison and a maximum of life," said Kayla Allen, the Felony Division Chief at the Galveston County District Attorney's Office; Wright, now hedged in by a $250,000 bond according to court filings.
No longer lurking in films or foreign shores, it manifests in the Houston Area, a known nerve center for this illicit trade given its geographical handshake with highways, borders, and bustling ship channels—a furnishing that allows wayward souls to vanish within the gossamer strands of society, as The Galveston County Daily News corroborated.
“The young woman came forward in July and we began investigating, It took a few months to go through phones and identify everyone,” Maj. Ray Nolen recounted.
