On Friday, a chemical spill incident occurred in Downtown Los Angeles near 1168 La Live Way, sparking response from the Los Angeles Fire Department (LAFD) and concern from local citizens. The incident began at 1:32 PM when an employee, who was tasked with moving a 55-gallon drum into a parking structure for cleaning, started feeling unwell, likely due to the drum's fumes. The LAFD was promptly alerted and dispatched their HazMat team to investigate the unknown substance contained in the drum, according to their official report.
The male employee received medical treatment at the scene, but declined being taken to a hospital, marking him as the only known individual affected by the materials to liberate from within the drum, as reported by the LAFD. There was no need for evacuations but HVAC units in the surrounding area were shut down as a safety measure.
While the scene remained active, HazMat trained firefighters continued to work meticulously to, identify the unidentified unknown substance. Additionally, more than 10 LA Live employees came to be evaluated by LAFD personnel. During the incident, more resources were allocated to assist with patient triage and safety.
