In a clash of differing perspectives, altercations broke out outside the Museum of Tolerance in Los Angeles following a private film screening yesterday. Pro-Israeli and pro-Palestinian demonstrators converged near the museum, home to exhibits portraying the history of the Holocaust, where tensions boiled over into physical confrontations as per KTLA.
The film at the heart of the conflict, known as Bearing Witness, features raw footage of a Hamas attack on Israeli civilians near the Gaza border on October 7, reportedly resulting in over 1,400 casualties. The 47-minute film provided by the Israeli Defense Forces was screened for select audiences in Los Angeles and New York. Actress Gal Gadot, notable for her Israeli citizenship and past service in the IDF, is rumored to have been involved in the organization of these screenings according to the KTLA.
As protestors waving Israeli and Palestinian flags assembled outside the museum, the Los Angeles Police Department (LAPD) kept a close eye on the situation. Though the initial gathering remained peaceful, a small group of demonstrators returned to the location about an hour after the event ended, and a physical altercation ensued as reported by the LAPD.
According to the KTLA report, the conflict involved participants throwing punches and kicking passing cars at a nearby intersection. The LAPD subsequently arrived at the scene to re-establish order and took two reports for battery for further investigation. As of today, no individuals have been apprehended in connection with the battery charges or other associated offenses.
