Yesterday, a deputy-involved shooting occurred in Riverside County, prompting inquiries into law enforcement use of force. The Riverside County Sheriff's Department responded to a call about an armed individual in a business on South San Jacinto Avenue, San Jacinto, as reported in their official statement.
A witness initially reported that a Hispanic adult male had a firearm at the business and left on a bicycle. Once deputies arrived and identified a man matching the description, they followed him as he rode behind a business establishment. Upon catching up with the suspect, the deputies asked him to dismount his bike. The man allegedly presented a handgun upon leaving the bike, which ultimately led to the officer-involved shooting.
The suspect suffered fatal injuries and despite attempts to provide emergency assistance by the deputies, paramedics eventually pronounced him dead at the scene, according to the Riverside County Sheriff's Department statement. The deputy involved in the shooting will now be placed on paid administrative leave, as dictated by the department's protocol. The officer's identity is yet to be released.
