In a brazen nocturnal operation that sounds like the plot straight out of a Hollywood caper, a cadre of masked burglars purloined a dozen French Bulldogs valued at roughly $100,000 from Top Dog Pet Store in Gardena, California. The thieves shattered the tranquility of the night by smashing their way into the pet shop yesterday, initiating an urgent manhunt by local authorities as reported by FOX LA.
The store's security footage caught the four culprits arriving in a large white Chevy van, breaking into the establishment shortly after 1 a.m. under the glare of the store's 16 security cameras. According to a KTLA report, the suspects were seen hastily loading dog cages into the vehicle. "They ran to where the dogs were, grabbed the cages, dragged them out, and tossed them into the van", store owner Andres Avalos lamented.
Describing the chilling details, Avalos revealed to FOX LA that the value of the dogs lies not only in their breed but also in their show-quality, a detail that intensifies the tragedy as their papers and vaccination information—integral to their worth—were not stolen with them. Avalos has extended an olive branch to the thieves, offering a reward for the safe return of the dogs, "no questions asked."
At a time when every second counts, the pet store owner is appealing to the better angels of the thieves' nature for the welfare of the canines. Avalos told ABC7, "I'm just asking, whoever took the dogs, bring them back." He added, “It’s just frustrating knowing they are out there and we can’t do anything about it.” His devotion to his furry friends goes beyond the financial hit; it's an emotional plea from a man who sees these pups not simply as assets, but as part of an extended family – a sentiment shared by the dog community that is rallying to his side.
While Gardena police scour the area for leads, the pet shop grapples with the stark reality of their loss and the dogs' unknown fate. Avalos is erecting a substantial monetary reward for any information that could lead to the recovery of the animals and the apprehension of the suspects, who so far remain elusive as per the details obtained by KTLA. As social media buzzes with the story and concerned netizens share posts of the boutique dogs, hope endures that they will be returned unharmed to their rightful home.
