In an incident that the Los Angeles Police Department says was not a random act, a man barged into the eatery around 6:15 p.m., where patrons were indulging in the warmth of comfort food, and opened fire. According to CBS News Los Angeles, Commander Lillian Carranza described the lone male shooter, who, after leaving a woman injured by a stray bullet, shot a man and made his escape in a white Honda, as "armed and dangerous and obviously, a threat to society."
The man who suffered gunshot wounds was rushed to the hospital but died from his injuries, leaving a community to grapple with yet another senseless loss of life. The suspect's escape vehicle, possibly an SUV, carved a path of urgency for LAPD's manhunt as they scoured the city for the perpetrator, as detailed by the LAPD's official X account.

The restaurant, owned by former NBA point guard and Sacramento Mayor Kevin Johnson, expressed its deep sorrow over the incident, stating, "Fixins Soul Kitchen is shocked and saddened by the incident that occurred this evening at our LA location. Our hearts go out to the victim's family and loved ones." Meanwhile, Project Islamic Hope stands in solidarity with the restaurant, with director Najee Ali proclaiming their continued support.
