A suspected drunk driver incited a high-speed chase through Los Angeles on Saturday evening, leading police on a pursuit across multiple freeways. The incident started around 10 pm in the city of Bell, where police attempted to stop the driver on suspicion of DUI. The California Highway Patrol later took over the chase as the driver headed northbound, according to reports from Fox LA. The suspect pushed their vehicle to speeds exceeding 100 mph, even hitting 140 mph in certain stretches.
The chase eventually concluded on the 405 Freeway near Inglewood. Traffic congestion from an unrelated accident slowed the fleeing vehicle, enabling police to apprehend the suspects, Fox LA reported. Officers managed to safely pull the car over to the side of the road after the suspects decided to surrender.
Aerial footage from NewsChopper 4 captured the chase, highlighting how the suspect’s attempt to escape was ultimately thwarted by heavy traffic. The driver, along with the passenger, surrendered to the authorities, underscoring the futile nature of their attempted getaway in the congested roadways of LA. NBC Los Angeles provided additional coverage of the incident.
The identities of the suspects remain undisclosed as they face impending charges. The chase, reminiscent of scenes from an action movie, concluded amidst the heavy traffic of Los Angeles and was covered by the Los Angeles CBS News affiliate. This incident serves as a stark reminder of the unpredictable nature of the city's freeways.
