An evening at a fast-food joint turned into a harrowing nightmare when gunfire erupted in the parking lot of Carl's Jr. on a sleepy Sunday in Hesperia, authorities said. The San Bernardino County Sheriff's Department has hooked a big fish in the case, netting 41-year-old Max J. Anaya of Victorville, accused of turning dinner time into a near-death experience as reported by the Hesperia Police Department.
According to an official statement by the Sheriff's Department, deputies raced to the scene around dinnertime on November 12 to the intersection of Bear Valley Road and Mariposa Road, where they found a victim—whose identity remains under wraps—suffering from gunshot wounds due to an altercation while parked at Carl's Jr. at 14717 Bear Valley Road. The victim, caught in a storm of lead, is now recovering after being whisked away to the hospital.
But the story doesn't end with the wail of sirens and the clatter of a gurney's wheels. Detectives launched a manhunt and zeroed in on Anaya, who was arrested yesterday in Victorville and slapped with attempted murder charges. The alleged shooter now has a new address at the High Desert Detention Center, with the hefty weight of $500,000 bail keeping him anchored.
The Hesperia Police are keeping their ears to the ground and urging anyone with the 411 on this case to dial them up or go straight to the We-Tip Hotline to drop a dime anonymously.
Details about Anaya's catch and the surrounding circumstances can be reeled in from the Sheriff's Department's release. Anyone fishing for information or looking to tip-off can hit up the Hesperia Police directly or cast their line out to the We-Tip Hotline.
