
Yesterday, a fatal hit-and-run occurred in Los Angeles, resulting in one death and another casualty. The Los Angeles Police Department is appealing to the public for assistance in identifying the driver involved. Consequently, this incident underlines the importance of vigilance and caution on the road for both drivers and pedestrians, as press released by the Los Angeles Police.
While two pedestrians crossed Arlington Avenue near Venice Boulevard, an unidentified vehicle struck them and fled the scene. The injured pedestrian was subsequently hit by a second car that remained on the scene, as mandated by the law. The Los Angeles Fire Department provided medical aid, but the injured pedestrian eventually succumbed to her injuries. The whereabouts of the second pedestrian remains unknown as per the LAPD's news release.
In response to, the issue of hit-and-run incidents, Los Angeles devised the Hit-and-Run Reward Program Trust Fund in 2015, offering financial rewards for information leading to the identification and conviction of perpetrators. This incentive is aimed at resolving hit-and-run cases in the city (source).
The LAPD has urged drivers and pedestrians to strictly adhere to traffic rules. Drivers have been reminded to stop following a collision, call emergency services, and remain at the scene. Correspondingly, pedestrians are advised to exercise caution, respect traffic signals, and use the crosswalks whenever feasible.
