Yesterday, Eduardo Eli Hernandez, a felon living in Joshua Tree, was apprehended by the Morongo Basin Sheriff's Department and the Sheriff's Specialized Enforcement Division (SED). The arrest, executed by Deputy L. Gonzalez and Detective A. Alcala, was carried out without incident according to the news release.
Hernandez, a convicted felon, was legally barred from owning firearms and ammunition. Regardless of this, a search warrant at his residence led investigators to find and seize 14 firearms and ammunition, leading to questions about the effectiveness of the current legal framework in deterring criminal behavior.
Before this apprehension, Hernandez was already wanted for a felony warrant from Arizona for a weapons violation, besides a felony warrant for Penal Code 422-Criminal Threats.
