
The final defendant in a fatal gang shooting from 2016, Alexis Ivan Ramirez, has been sentenced to 25 years in prison. Pleading guilty on May 1, to charges of voluntary manslaughter and attempted murder, both felonies, Ramirez also admitted to gang enhancements, as confirmed by the Ventura County District Attorney's Office.
On the afternoon of June 29, 2016, Ramirez and three others clashed with two men on East Main Street in Ventura, after a verbal exchange related to gang affiliations. The incident escalated into a deadly shooting, in which Ramirez and another accomplice lay in ambush and opened fire. The ensuing violence left one man dead, another one injured and led to a vehicle collision injuring all four people involved in the initial confrontation.
Richard Hernandez, another participant in this attack, was sentenced to 32 years and 8 months to life on September 29, 2023, after pleading guilty to charges of second-degree murder, attempted murder, and evading an officer with gang enhancements. Ventura County District Attorney's Office reported previously that Luis Aguilar was sentenced to 17 years in 2019, having pleaded guilty to voluntary manslaughter and attempted murder with gang enhancements. The last defendant had her case handled in juvenile court in 2018.
