Five individuals were arrested on November 5 in connection with a suspected burglary ring, reportedly targeting Asian American residents in Texas' Plano and Frisco areas. The group is implicated in five burglaries that have taken place since late October, primarily victimizing Asian Americans. Although no specific Asian subgroups were exclusively targeted, the incidents coincide with a nationwide increase in anti-Asian hate incidents since 2020 as reported by Dallas News.
Before being arrested, the suspects evidently utilized a standard approach that involved knocking on doors during the day and forcibly accessing homes if they were seemingly unoccupied. On the day of their arrest, this group, waking up three sleeping residents, attempted a burglary. The alerted residents managed to call the police, who arrived just in time to catch the suspects, identified as Juan Pinto-Rodriguez, Adrianna Abello-Ruiz, Luis Tafur-Tovar, Helmer Patino-Calderon, and Jeisson Tafur-Tovar. FOX 4 News reports the suspects are in policy custody and all face charges for engaging in organized criminal activity.
According to the Irving Journal, Plano Police Department's Burglary Detectives, Vehicle Crimes Detectives, and Patrol officers collaboratively facilitated the suspects' capture. Detectives had discerned a repeating pattern in late October, with the criminals often disguising themselves as service or delivery professionals, turning off the houses' electric meters, and breaking in when noticing the house occupants' absence.
