Irvine residents were greeted with a plume of smoke rising from the hills this morning as a vehicle burst into flames above Bake Parkway and Lake Forest Drive. In what could have become a fiery disaster, the blaze, whipped up by the windy conditions, threatened to leap into the surrounding brush. However, thanks to the quick response of emergency crews, the situation was tackled with precision and prevented from escalating according to the Orange County Fire Authority Facebook post.
As per Orange County Fire Authority, which posted footage of the incident, ground forces, OCFA helicopters, and aircraft from partnering agencies swarmed the scene. The fleet included Quick Reaction Force helicopters that provided an aerial view of the operation. The video captured by one such helicopter illustrates the urgency and coordinated efforts to contain the fire. "The fire was quickly confined to the vehicle by ground units—with no extension to the brush," the fire authority reported. Thankfully, there were no reports of the fire spreading to the nearby wildland.
The Irvine Police Department also played a key role in monitoring the incident. Utilizing their Unmanned Aerial Vehicle (UAV), or drone, they provided additional perspectives from above, peering through the smoky aftermath to ensure all was clear.
