Fort Worth City Council has approved a $2.2 million contract with AECOM Technical Services Inc. for the creation of a comprehensive Master Transportation Plan.

Expected to start in Fall 2023 and concluded by 2025, the Master Transportation Plan will address the concerns of growth, congestion, connectivity, and safety in the ever-expanding city.

The Master Transportation Plan's primary objective is to quickly establish prioritized transportation goals that will plan for the next two decades. These will comprise making multimodal networks to adapt to a variety of traveling methods, such as walking, cycling, driving, micro mobility devices, freight, and public transport. The plan will also anticipate and accommodate geographic and demographic expansion, augment safety through the Vision Zero initiative, reduce traffic congestion, and improve regional connectivity.

To ensure the sustainability and success of the project, it is the plans to explore potential new revenue sources, including creating adaptable transportation user fees, bonds, TIP, and other funding cycles. Engaging the public through outreach strategies and aligning city policies that impact transportation and land use, such as zoning and subdivision regulation, will be essential.

Integrating smart city strategies and technology into future development is an aspect of this planning endeavor, according to the city's official announcement. By aligning Fort Worth’s transportation goals with urban development advancements, the Master Transportation Plan has the potential to become the growing city's effective solution.
