Four States Join Antitrust Battle Against Agri Stats amid Agricultural Industry ScrutinySource: Google Street View

Earlier today, Agri Stats Inc., a firm implicated to be at the center of anticompetitive practices, faced further challenges. Attorneys General from Minnesota, California, North Carolina, and Tennessee added their names to a civil antitrust lawsuit against the company. This comes from the Justice Department's Antitrust Division and targets information exchanges that are potentially harmful among broiler chicken, pork, and turkey processors, as per a press release.

"We are looking forward to working closely with our state law enforcement partners to litigate this critical case, which directly impacts consumers nationwide," said Assistant Attorney General Jonathan Kanter of the Justice Department’s Antitrust Division. He noted the increasing importance of cooperation to tackle such large-scale antitrust cases.

Due to the severe consequences these deeds has on consumers and farmers, the Justice Department urges anyone with useful information about collusion in agricultural industries, or antitrust law violations, to contact their Citizen Complaint Center. They can also report anticompetitive practices in livestock and poultry markets to the USDA and Justice Department's Agricultural Markets Enforcement Partnership through their website, www.farmerfairness.gov.
