A series of Ocean Water Use Warnings have been announced by the Los Angeles County Department of Public Health, advising beachgoers to avoid certain areas prone to high bacterial levels. The affected locations span several popular spots and include the swim areas around Malibu Pier, Escondido Creek, and Mothers Beach in Marina Del Rey, among others.
The advisories come as a caution against swimming, surfing, and playing in these ocean waters where bacterial levels have risen beyond health standards, a concern for both residents and visitors alike. According to recent announcements, confirmed beaches with elevated bacteria include also Malibu Lagoon at Surfrider Beach and the area around Santa Monica Canyon Creek at Will Rogers State Beach. Water enthusiasts are especially warned to keep clear from a 100 yards stretch up and down the coast from these locations.
However, the department has also cleared certain previously affected beaches, signaling improved conditions. Inner Cabrillo Beach in San Pedro has met state water quality standards again, providing a safe haven for ocean activities. The County's beach closure hotline is available 24-hours at 1-800-525-5662, offering recorded information on beach conditions, so residents can stay informed and safe.
