Mario Roberson, once seen as a victim, is now facing charges of felony arson for a fire at his Huntsville property, sources report. This blaze not only consumed his rental home but claimed the lives of two men, including a relative of Roberson, according to ABC13.
Waterwood neighborhood home was set ablaze on the early morning of June 10. Roberson's story took a harrowing turn when a grand jury delivered a "true bill," concluding a months-long plunge into the grim depths of the case by the Texas State Fire Marshal's Office, as disclosed in a report by ABC13. Spun with a narrative alleging his home was defaced with racist graffiti, including the grisly missive, "We don't like your kind," Roberson originally laid blame on the homeowners' association amidst a quarrel over short-term rentals.
Roberson, with several civil lawsuits in his wake both in Oklahoma and Texas, is now battling claims of insurance fraud and arson. As reported by ABC13, a witness from the night described being coerced into the ill-fated locale, suggesting the possibility of what law enforcement calls a "numbers job," often associated with schemes of insurance chicanery.
In an earlier lawsuit, exactly four years before the blaze, Roberson stands accused of an attempt to purchase a property replete with a golf course, hotel, and restaurant, boasting $1 million in cash-stuffed briefcases, despite a bankruptcy filing 13 years prior.
