
On November 6, a 12-year-old girl, Journee Buchanan-Williams, was tragically struck by a vehicle at the intersection of Highway 18 and Apple Valley Road in Apple Valley, California.
According to the SBSD - Apple Valley Police Department, the incident involved Journee and a Ford Transit operated by Darren Rottino, a 58-year-old resident of Apple Valley.
The pedestrian suffered major injuries and was transported to a local hospital by ambulance. The pedestrian later succumbed to her injuries and was pronounced deceased at the hospital. The driver of the Ford Transit was uninjured and remained on scene to cooperate with the investigation.
An investigator from the San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department Major Accident Investigative Team (M.A.I.T) arrived and is conducting an investigation. State Highway 18 eastbound lanes were closed between the intersections of Apple Valley Road and Kasota Road for approximately three hours while deputies processed the scene for evidence and interviewed witnesses.
