The City of Glendale prepares to honor an American hero, Sadao S. Munemori, by inaugurating the "Sadao S. Munemori Memorial Square" at the intersection of Isabel Street and Broadway on December 9. The memorial stands as a reminder of both the sacrifices of World War II and the resilience of the Japanese American community, represented by Munemori. The City of Glendale announced that a public unveiling ceremony will be held at the Veteran's Memorial at Glendale City Hall according to the press release.

Sadao S. Munemori, a second-generation Japanese American who hails from Glendale, made a heroic sacrifice in 1945 to save his comrades in Seravezza, Italy. Munemori's bravery distinguished him, making him the only Japanese American to be awarded the Medal of Honor during World War II.

According to Councilmember Kassakhian, the intention behind the dedication of the Memorial Square is to "inspire a shared appreciation for those who put the well-being of others above all else.” She also encourages visitors to familiarize themselves with Munemori's legacy. Dr. Mitchell Maki, the President and CEO of Go For Broke, echoed these sentiments, describing Munemori as "a selfless soldier who fought and died for his nation, his family, and generations of Americans whom he would never know."

The Consul General of Japan in Los Angeles, Kenko Sone, expressed his support for the initiative, indicating his hopes that the square's dedication would encourage Japanese citizens to more deeply comprehend the contributions of Japanese Americans.
