The Hesperia Police Department has unveiled plans to implement DUI patrols on the evenings on Friday and Saturday, from 7:00 p.m. to 3:00 a.m. The plan aligns with the department’s mission of curbing dangers associated with impaired driving, extending beyond mere alcohol abuse as per a statement released via Nixle.
“Impaired driving is preventable," said Sgt. B. Motley of the Hesperia Police Department. He prompted individuals under the influence to use sober ride options. Additionally, Sgt. Motley underscored the risks posed by prescription and over-the-counter drugs and illegal substances like marijuana, irrespective of medical or recreational legality.
The Nixle statement warns that first-time DUI offenders could incur an average fine and penalty of up to $13,500, with the added possibility of license suspension.
Funding for the DUI patrol program, to cut through unnecessary bureaucratic red tape, is provided via a grant from the California Office of Traffic Safety, partnered with the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.
