On Friday, at around 9:15 p.m., a police officer fired shots at an armed suspect during a robbery and chase near the 13000 block of Cityscape Avenue. Luckily, no one was injured. The incident is being investigated according to Fox 26 Houston.
The trouble began when an unsuspecting man, dozing in his car, was awakened by the suspect, who came knocking on his window with a gun in hand. What followed was a desperate struggle for the weapon, which eventually went off. Neither man was injured. It was a witness's quick thinking to alert two Houston Police Department officers that brought the authorities rushing to the scene as Click2Houston noted.
The suspect, ignoring the officers' repeated demands to drop the weapon, took off, leading the officers on a foot chase through an apartment complex. At a terrifying turn, the suspect wheeled around, weapon still in hand, prompting an officer to shoot twice in self-defense; "the officer felt threatened". The bullets missed their mark, and the suspect continued his attempt to escape, tossing his gun over a gate before the police officer finally caught up and handcuffed the suspect on the ground as mentioned by Click2Houston.
While the suspect's identity remains under wraps, the officers involved, both of whom have donned the uniform for three years, are set to exchange their patrol duties for desks pending the outcome of the investigation.
