The teenager, described as an African American with red short dreads and brown eyes, vanished from the 6300 block of Posada Court in Palmdale just before four in the afternoon yesterday, according to the Sheriff's Information Bureau.
Wheat, standing 5 feet 4 inches tall and weighing 168 pounds, was wearing a yellow hoodie, black leggings, and carrying a brown backpack when she was last seen. Adding to the urgency is the fact that Alaia suffers from a mental health disorder, a detail the Sheriff's office disclosed in a plea for public assistance. Her loved ones are fraught with anxiety over her disappearance and hope that tips from the community will lead to her safe return.
The case has touched a nerve among the Palmdale community, prompting the Sheriff's Department to issue a call-to-action to anyone with information to step forward. "Her family is concerned with her well-being and is asking for the public’s help," the department stated in a press release.
