Earlier today, the Los Angeles Fire Department (LAFD) were swiftly on-scene at a high-rise fire at 801 S Hope St in Downtown LA. The LAFD alert indicates that a 20-story residential building saw sprinkler activation on the 16th floor, causing multinational alarms. Residents and drivers were warned to avoid Hope St, W 8th St, and W 9th St as LAFD units lined the streets.
The LAFD rapidly stabilized the situation upon ascension to the 16th floor where they located the fire source. An exterior sprinkler system was deployed, managing effectively to extinguish the unit's balcony fire. The LAFD report asserts no injuries resulted from the incident. The investigation for potential water damage in the unit below due to the sprinkler activation is underway.
