
Yesterday, a knife-involved conflict resulted in a fatal officer-involved shooting in Los Angeles's Topanga Division. The LAPD responded to a call about an assault where the suspect was armed with a machete. Officers later shot the suspect who was pronounced dead at a local hospital.
According to the LAPD's official statement, a distress call was logged at 7:38 p.m. reporting a machete assault on Avenue San Luis. Officers arrived on the scene and pursued the assailant who fled armed with a knife and a glass bottle, subsequently entering a nearby restaurant area full of diners.

To detain the suspect, officers fired a taser twice to unsuccessfully subdue him. As he entered the restaurant's patio and threatened officers with his knife, the shooting occurred. The officers administered first aid until paramedics transported him to a local hospital, where he later died.
Additional investigation found that the initial assault involved the suspect attacking another individual with a machete on Avenue San Luis. The victim disarmed the attacker, who then switched to a knife. The victim suffered injuries but was not critically hurt. Both the machete and knife were found at the separate crime scenes of Avenue San Luis and Calabasas Road.
