Vital services will remain in operation, including fire and lifeguard stations, and Long Beach Airport. Marina offices and the City Prosecutor's Office will keep doors open also. Parks, recreation centers, marine programs, and emergency services like gas, water, and sewer dispatch will operate as per their regular schedules to ensure the necessary assistance for the citizens of Long Beach.
Conversely, several city services will be off on Election Day. Services that will be unavailable include Building and Safety services, Code Enforcement services, and Energy Resources offices. Public health and housing facilities, and administrative offices such as the Fire Headquarters and Health Department will also be closed. In addition, Billie Jean King Main Library and all branch libraries will not be open, though online resources will remain accessible to the public around the clock.
In a noteworthy development, city-operated COVID-19 testing and vaccination sites are closing to mark Election Day, according to the announcement. The decision is presumably logistical and is expected to minimally impact the city's public health response.
Residents' awareness of the schedule changes on Election Day is vital. Street sweeping will not be carried out and enforcement of its violations will also be suspended. Parking meters will be enforced citywide except for a few, as indicated on the meters themselves. Garbage and recycling services to continue to operate without interruption.
The Permit Center and utility customer assistance will be unavailable due to the closure of City Hall and its offices. Nevertheless, for Long Beach residents, all online resources on the city website will remain available, facilitating transactions for services such as building permit services and bill payments, even during the closure.
Note that on November 7, the Towing Operations and Vehicle Storage Facility will close, but services will return to regular hours the next day. Additional services are available for an extra fee outside of regular hours, should urgent needs emerge.
