Last week on October 26, a distressing incident unfolded in Los Angeles when local LAPD officers responded to a stabbing incident. They discovered a second victim during their investigation and engaged with a suspect who later died from self-inflicted wounds.
The LAPD Newsroom report indicates that officers first responded to a stabbing at the junction of 6th Street and Spring Street. They located a victim and quickly gathered information about a suspect who resided in a nearby apartment building on West 6th Street. Searching the fourth floor, they uncovered another stabbing victim, further escalating the situation.
The preliminary investigation reveals a tense scene: officers at the apartment door, with the suspect wielding a kitchen knife. Officers reportedly deployed three 40mm Less-Lethal-Launcher (LLL) rounds and discharged three TASERs in Probe Mode, which appeared to have minimal impact on the suspect. The emotionally charged suspect entreated officers to kill him.
The incident took a turn when the suspect inflicted multiple wounds on himself and later died after being apprehended. Both the suspect and the two victims were rushed to a local hospital by Los Angeles Fire Department paramedics. The suspect and one victim died from their injuries, while the other victim is in critical condition.
Though a harrowing ordeal, no residents or law enforcement agents were hurt during this encounter.
While investigations continue, LAPD's Force Investigation Division (FID) and the Operations-Central Bureau Homicide Unit aim to reconstruct the sequence of events. The FID investigation will delve into the interactions between officers, the suspect, and the circumstances leading to such a tragic outcome.
