The Michelin-starred restaurant from Washington, D.C., Maydan, and Compass Rose, is expanding to West Adams, Los Angeles in the summer of 2024. The new establishment, dubbed Maydan Market, will span an impressive 3,000-square-foot and is spearheaded by owner Rose Previte, according to Eater.
Previte is drawing inspiration for Maydan Market from global markets such as La Boqueria in Barcelona and the night markets in South Korea. The market will host the L.A. outposts of both Maydan and Compass Rose as well as five distinct food concepts, yet to be unveiled, reflecting the cultural diversity of the city.
Maydan Market seeks to contribute to the local community by focusing on affordable pricing, with plans to offer meals priced between $6 and $100. Previte's team has engaged with community members to understand their needs and ensure the new establishment caters to the local demographics. Additionally, the market plans to foster entrepreneurship by including five stalls for local businesses and making use of local produce.
While the L.A. Compass Rose will retain its signature Georgian dish, khachapuri, modifications will be made to cater to the local culinary scene. The L.A. eatery will provide breakfast and lunch with a street food slant, incorporating a coffee bar and a full-service liquor bar, with both indoor and outdoor community-friendly dining spaces.
As noted on the Maydan Market website, winter pop-up events will be held for the community in West Adams between December and January. These events underline Previte's grassroots strategy and aim to engage the local community during the development of this new culinary center.
With the help of Fundrise, a D.C.-based fintech company that facilitates real estate crowd investments, this project has come to fruition. The firm approached Previte upon learning about her business activities on both coasts, making her an invaluable asset in their development projects on West Jefferson.
