A shocking display of road rage turned violent in Moreno Valley on November 23 when a man was accused of threatening a woman and child with a gun after a minor car collision. The incident unfolded in the morning when a woman, attempting to leave a parking lot, accidentally reversed her vehicle into a black pickup truck. The truck's driver, identified as 54-year-old Jay Ali Sherman, escalated the situation rapidly, confronting the woman and demanding she hand over her car paperwork. When she tried to call for help, "Sherman grabbed her cellphone, brandished a firearm at her, and told her he would find her," according to the Riverside County Sheriff's Department.

The fearful standoff was interrupted when passersby intervened, causing Sherman to abandon his harassment and flee, leaving behind the victim's phone. The Sheriff's Department launched a manhunt, culminating in a search warrant at Sherman's residence two days later on Wild Flax Lane.

In a statement from the Sheriff's Department, Lt. Sheree’ Anthony detailed the findings: "Evidentiary items were located at the residence." Sherman was booked on a litany of charges, including robbery, criminal threats, brandishing a firearm, false imprisonment, intimidating a witness, enabling the usage of a phone line, and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon.

The aftermath of the harrowing ordeal has left the community on edge, prompting authorities to appeal to the public for additional information. Anyone with evidence or footage of the confrontation is encouraged to contact Deputy Aguirre of the Moreno Valley Station.

Sherman is currently being held at the Robert Presley Detention Center. His apprehension underscores the dangerous unpredictability of road rage incidents and the willingness of some to take these confrontations to potentially deadly extremes.
