The city of Santa Monica recently appointed Paula Crowell as its new chief information officer yesterday. Her appointment, follows a nationwide search ensuring optimal fit for the position, as per the city's official press release reports.
Crowell, bringing over two decades of experience to the role, previously worked as the IT director for the Medicare Payment Advisory Commission and the IT manager for the city of Temecula. Her latest role was director of information services for the Long Beach Utilities Department. Crowell's breadth of expertise will be critical in managing the future challenges.
"Technology is a cornerstone that allows us to serve the community more efficiently and effectively," said City Manager David White, reinforcing the significance of embracing digital advancements in urban governance. Crowell, White added, is a "talented and experienced leader" who will play a key role in enhancing city services further.
Her responsibilities as chief information officer will include managing a team of 50 city staff members, a $13 million budget, staff training, cybersecurity, software engineering, and the development of the Santa Monica mobile app. "I'm looking forward to applying my skills and expertise to drive innovation," Crowell expressed, eager to transform digital technology to meet city's challenges and improving Santa Monica's quality of life.
The city's press release also mentions Crowell's past contributions to enhancing services and infrastructure during her tenure in Temecula and Long Beach. This too reaffirms cities' focus on digital innovation to improve connectivity and access for its residents.
