On November 4, an escape was attempted at Los Padrinos Juvenile Hall in Downey.
This is the second escape attempt at Los Padrinos in four months after reopening, as mentioned in a press release from Supervisor Janice Hahn's office. The facility, closed for four years, was reopened by the California Board of State and Community Corrections when two other juvenile halls in the county were found unfit.
In response to this incident, Supervisor Hahn quickly set a strategy. A motion was approved by the Board directed the Chief Probation Officer to provide a corrective action plan, and to work with other cities for safety, as per Hahn's office's statement.
The Los Angeles County Probation Department initiated an internal investigation into the incident, with the Office of the Inspector General's involvement and the implementation of a corrective action plan, as per Supervisor Hahn's office.
