Police apprehended 56-year-old Michael Lewis after a tumultuous encounter that culminated in an officer-involved shooting near 2600 Almeda Genoa Road.
Lewis, who was hit with charges including aggravated robbery with a deadly weapon and unlawful weapon possession due to his felon status, found himself in the hospital recovering from injuries sustained during the scuffle; this clash erupted when a victim he attempted to rob fought back. The suspect reportedly knocked on the window of a man resting in his vehicle, and the ensuing struggle led to gunfire, according to the City of Houston News Department.
HPD Officer X. Wallace, who joined the ranks of Houston's finest in August 2020, faced the harrowing decision to discharge his weapon during the pursuit, albeit without striking Lewis.
Amid the glares of justice now affixed on him from the 486th State District Court to the Harris County Criminal Court #4, Michael Lewis remains hospitalized. The incident investigation is now in the hands of the HPD Special Investigations Unit along with the Internal Affairs Division.
