Authorities spanning from Solano County to the East Bay executed a collaborative operation to combat car thefts, recording a major victory. A Facebook post by the Solano County Sheriff yesterday announced the detainment of car thieves along with seized weapons and blank keys.
A deputy from Team 4 in Solano County spotted and tracked a stolen vehicle in Oakland. With the California Highway Patrol (CHP) taking over the chase, the suspects were intercepted and apprehended as they attempted to make hastily a getaway on foot. This showcase of local law enforcement synergy effectively disrupted the car theft pattern in the vicinity.
Upon searching the suspects' possessions, two unregistered handguns and a key fob programmer attended by multiple blank keys were found in a backpack. The number of thefts the criminals might have committed or how long they've been active is as yet unknown.
The uncovering of the key fob programmer and blank keys also manifests the advanced tactics utilized by car thieves who are more and more taking advantage of technological progress to swiftly break into vehicles. The existence of unregistered firearms further accentuates the threat these felons present, beyond property, to community safety.
