The Irvine Police Department took to Facebook to recount the bust of two men from Los Angeles who were nabbed for allegedly fishing out mail from a local USPS mailbox. "We packaged up this patrol arrest for you and hope it earns your stamp of approval," the department quipped in a post on their official page, IrvinePD.

It all went down on Sunday night when an officer spotted a vehicle parked next to a mailbox that looked outright suspicious. Just as the cop rolled up to investigate, the car high-tailed it out of there. Not one to be trifled with, the officer pursued and pulled the vehicle over, subsequently making contact with the two gents inside. They were handed a ticket for possessing burglary tools—quite the paper trail to leave behind.

Mail theft is on the rise, with perps targeting checks and vital documents. They had some sound advice to share with the community: "If you need to mail checks or other important documents, please hand them to a letter carrier or drop them off inside the post office," according to the Irvine Police.

"This case remains under investigation," said the department.
