In an afternoon heist, two women made the mistake of underestimating the vigilance of retail workers at a Corona Sunglass Hut, leading to their arrest mid-robbery. Tajonae Mondy, 25, of San Diego, and Chavellia McMullen, 27, from Corona, now face a slew of charges including retail theft, grand theft, vandalism, and conspiracy after their failed attempt on November 15 to bag an eye-watering $18,000 worth of sunglasses and other merchandise, as reported by FOXLA.
According to the KTLA, the duo waltzed into the store on Cabot Drive with bulging empty sacks and began stuffing them chock-full of high-end shades, but when employees caught wind, they sprang into action, deftly locking down the store and trapping the miscreants inside their own crime scene; the desperate thieves, realizing freedom was now beyond their grasp, unleashed their frustration on the defenseless merchandise.
"Officers quickly arrived and detained both suspects," revealed a tactical recounting on the Corona Police Department's official Instagram page, which also confirmed that the thwarted thieves had caused extensive damage to the store's inventory in their fit of rage upon realizing their plot had been snuffed out before it could evolve into a clean getaway.
