
Today, Paul Kessler, 69, passed away following violent confrontations at concurrent Pro-Israeli and Pro-Palestinian demonstrations in Thousand Oaks. The Ventura County Sheriff's Office is conducting an inquiry into the circumstances surrounding his death, preliminarily treating the case as a potential hate crime.
Deputies responded to the venue after reports from the public, locating Kessler with a head wound sustained during a scuffle. Eyewitness accounts allege that Kessler was involved in an altercation with counter-demonstrators, resulting in a fall backwards and hitting his head. He was swiftly taken to a hospital but sadly did not recover from his injuries.

A post-mortem examination carried out on November 6 revealed that Kessler's death resulted from blunt force trauma to his head, and his death was subsequently classified as a homicide. Reports from ABC7 suggest Kessler was a victim of assault by pro-Palestinian participants—specifically hit by a megaphone.
This act of violence has been vehemently denounced throughout the Jewish community. The Jewish Federation of Greater Los Angeles, in expressing their deep sorrow, contended the tragic incident was the fourth major anti-Semitic crime in Los Angeles in 2023 alone.
A plea for public assistance in the ongoing investigation has been made by the Ventura County Sheriff's Office to further illuminate the course of events.
