An accident took place in Long Beach yesterday, a pedestrian was killed and others were injured. The incident occurred around 5:50 p.m. in the 1000 block of Pacific Coast Highway, involving a 2010 Nissan 350z and a 2017 Jeep Cherokee as reported by KTLA. Authorities are looking into the cause of this incident.

According to a Long Beach Police Department press release, the Nissan's driver, a 20-year-old Long Beach resident, was traveling eastbound on Pacific Coast Highway at high speed. The Jeep Cherokee, driven by a 50-year-old woman, was making a left turn from westbound Pacific Coast Highway to southbound Martin Luther King Jr. Avenue, moving across the path of the speeding Nissan. The Nissan then collided with the Jeep, hit a traffic signal pole, and unfortunately, a pedestrian on the sidewalk.

Emergency responders reacted to the scene promptly. Regrettably, the pedestrian's injuries were fatal, and he was pronounced dead at the scene. His identity has not been revealed, as authorities are notifying his next of kin. The Long Beach Police Department press release mentioned that the Nissan's driver incurred minor injuries for which he was transported to a local hospital. The Jeep's driver, despite having some pain, declined medical aid.

The Long Beach Police Department made it clear that neither impaired nor distracted driving played any role in the causation of this accident, yet they are looking into speed as a possible cause.
